I am legend

Well, my opinion is extremely biased for this one. All in all, the movie itself is not so bad, but I realy loved the book when I read it back in college, and story wise, this movie is what Alone in the Dark (movie) is to the original video game : It has nothing to do with the original topic, and is a steaming pile of !@#$ (well, I might be overexagerating a bit, but I am realy upset about the realy terrible, and extremely poorly written ending of "I am Legend" the movie, considering the book's ending was giving the title it's entire meaning.
My advice :
Do NOT watch this movie, rather read the book instead (author beeing Richard Matheson).

Re: I am legend

I looked at this movie as a 21st century update to the 1964 movie The Last Man on Earth instead of a new or original screen play based on the I Am Legend book by: Richard Matheson. As such the majority of the new movie is much more eloquently done (not to surprising considering the $180 million dollar price tag). The lead role in both movies is played by outstanding actors (Vincent Price in the 1964 version and Will Smith in the current release).

I liked the ending of the 1964 film better and for those who have read the book I know you will have to agree on that point but if you can forgive that one set of scenes I think you will discover I Am Legend is a really fine film.

I liked the movie and found the ending to be satisfactory, at [sign in to see URL] that's probably because I have neither read the book nor seen The Last Man on Earth. emoticon

The following might contain spoilers :

Honestly, what did you guys think of the CGI ? To me they were a perfect example of how CGI should not be used. Real actors with makeup + animatronics would have done a much better job (see 28 days/months after for fast moving zombies that were good looking)
The bad guys looked way too fake. In fact, I thought the faces and expressions all looked like the CGI ones used in "The Mummy" (1999)

I totally agree on that point. My family and I all thought they should have used real actors instead. The CGI was craptastic.

I am Legend, the movie, is a combination of the book, I am Legend, and The Omega Man. It borrows alot of it's plot from The Omega MAn, including the ending.

The Omega Man was already an adaptation of Matheson's book "I am legend". And they did change the title ... because the original one would not have meant anything anymore anymore with the changes they put in the story.

I know that The Omega Man was very loosely based on the book, I am Legend. The current movie has more in common with the movie than the book. That is all I'm saying.

I thought the dog, Samantha, was the cutest thing. I cried when she died.

Like krog, I was disappointed at the ending. The start and middle of the film were good, but it seemed to rush the finish, and that's not a good thing for lots of different activities.
