Are you wearing the right clothes?

Are you wearing the right clothes?

Every morning we get up, shower, put on makeup, do our hair and put on clean clothes. These things are good for our outward appearance, but what about for our minds? How can we prepare ourselves for the day with all of life’s trials ahead of us, yet to come?

Ephesians 6:
10 Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might. 11 Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. 12 For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. 13 Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.

How can we possibly think we can handle the day without help? Or if we are one who just wants to “get by” we try and what kind of messes can we get ourselves into?

We need to first understand that our battle is not against flesh and blood. We are not in a war against any person, but the war is with satan. And we cannot fight the evil one each day on our own. We will loose! To over come any challenge, we must have the proper weapons and protection.

Ephesians 6:14 Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth, having put on the breastplate of righteousness,

The people of Paul’s time wore long flowing robes and what we would call skirts. Running was very difficult in that kind of dress, so when they entered a battle, they wrapped the skirt around their legs (girded). We are to prepare for our daily battle by protecting ourselves with the truth being wrapped around us. It’s the enabling nature of truth that resists lying and false doctrine. It’s the covering quality of righteousness that resists accusations of conscience and despondency.

Ephesians 6:15 and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace;

Our feet are important because if they are not protected, we stumble and fall. Keeping ourselves ready to be in the rocks and debris under our feet. It’s the stabilizing quality of peace that resists slander and selfishness;

Ephesians 6:16 above all, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one.

Does this mean that if we have faith we will not have any battles? No, but it is our shield that enables us to deflect some of those challenges. It’s the protective ability of faith that resists prayerlessness and doubt.

Ephesians 6:17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God;

A protective covering over our heads keeps our minds focused on what is right. And our sword is our weapon, God’s Word. It’s important to keep it in our hearts so we always have an answer. Study, meditate, and memorize to keep it foremost in our minds.
It’s the encouraging nature of salvation that resists fear and disappointment.

Ephesians 6:18 praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, being watchful to this end with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints— 19 and for me, that utterance may be given to me, that I may open my mouth boldly to make known the mystery of the gospel, 20 for which I am an ambassador in chains; that in it I may speak boldly, as I ought to speak.

Are you today fighting battles that seem to huge to bear? Do you feel like you are fighting alone? The answers are there: it just has to be applied to our daily lives. Take time to put on your armor. Paul made sure believers recognized that as new people who have been granted new life in a new family with new relationships they still would endure spiritual warfare. Ask for prayer, and boldly share God’s message of salvation, peace and joy in all you do.
